Gérard Piqué: A well-deserved third place in a Side Event of the EPT Barcelona
The edition 2011 of the European Poker Tour Barcelona (EPT) ended on September 1st with an important field even during the Main Event as during the Side Event. This Spanish tour was is full of surprises with the coronation of the German Martin Schleich at the Main Event. Schleich was at his first victory in a major tournament and pocketed for this purpose a gain of 850,000. At the Main Event, French players did also a good tournament in particular with the great performance of Isabel Baltazar. She was, as reminder, the only French player qualified for the final table of this tournament. But the biggest surprise of this tournament was the presence of Gérard Piqué in a Side Event of the EPT.
This football player of FC Barcelona was removed from the lawn after a leg injury and he took the opportunity to participate in the biggest poker tournament in Europe. During the Side Event six-handed turbo of 5 000, Gérard Piqué was among the field of sixty three players qualified for the final. Gérard Piqué was defeated face to the talent and experience of Roberto Romanello, who won the title and the prize of 110,250 and Joao Ribeiro who cashed 69,300. The footballer finished third in the competition and pocketed 40,950. His well-deserved third place showed to everyone that he is not only talented on the lawn but also on a poker table.
