WSOP Event # 16: John Juanda as champion, Grospellier in the 11th place
The final of the high-limit version of the Deuce-to-Seven Draw Lowball of the World Series of Poker 2011, a meeting that formed the Event # 16 of the world championship in Las Vegas, was played last Saturday, June 11. If this $ 10,000 tournament brought together 126 participants since Thursday, a turnout that let to collect a total prize pool of $ 1,184,400, there were only 14 players who were able to integrate the money. And it was a real battle of professional players as these players qualified for the final day totaled a cumulation of 33 WSOP bracelets. The day before, other renowned poker players like Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, David Uliott, Tom "durrrr" Dwan... have already been eliminated.
At the start of the final, Richard Ashby was the player who had the biggest stack, an advantage that gave him a great opportunity to win one more bracelet. But fate and determination of other players decided otherwise. If Johnny Chan was among the first eliminated from the final table, finishing in the 12th position, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier was the next and he was ranked at the 11th place with $ 27,928 gain. Joe Cassidy, Greg Raymer and Benjamin Parker, eliminated respectively at the 10th, 9th and 8th place get also the same prize. A few laps later, the chip leader of this final table was also eliminated, finishing in the 3rd place thereby leaving Phil Hellmuth and John Juanda compete the head's up. While Hellmuth was on his way to win a 12th WSOP bracelet, Juanda blocked his way, earning at the same time the title of champion of the Event # 16, winning $ 367,170 and a fifth bracelet.
