Attendance at the WSOP 2011: The organizers believe in
With less than a week before the kickoff of the World Series of Poker 2011 (WSOP), the discussions on the number of participants in this great world event is going well. For some, the shadow of the Black Friday incident, which affected many U.S. online poker rooms still hangs over a month later. Thus, the player Tom Dwan estimates a substantial drop of about 2,000 competitors in the Main Event of this year compared to 2010 which saw a crowd of 7,319 players. The reason is that, according to him, many American players are still awaiting the return of their bankroll.
For others who are not of this opinion, including the organizers of the WSOP, this next prestigious event will be at least as successful as that of last year's edition. For the director of the World Series of Poker, Ty Stewart, for example, he firmly believes that this year 2011 will mark a turning point for both international series of poker tournaments and the game in general. The Tournament Director, Jack Effel, has for his part another vision, the external parameters are not important to him. Therefore, he hopes to see at least the same number of participants as last year. For his part, the WSOP spokesman Seth Palansky, more practical, simply refers on bookings made at the hotel rooms. Less than one week from the beginning of the confrontation, statistics speaks by itself because it is already above that of 2010. Moreover, another indicator is the success in terms of participants of the recent Main Event final of the World Poker Tour $ 25,000 buy-in at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
