Basel: A club accused of organizing illegal poker tournaments
The Federal Commission of gambling and Gambling house in Switzerland organized a raid on a poker club in Basel. The reason of this visit by representatives of the Federal Gaming Board is that the poker club in question is suspected of organizing poker tournaments prohibited by law. At the scene, the 40 leaders of the Federal agents accompanied the Basel cantonal police found 40 players participating in a tournament. None of these players weren't arrested and they were free after the control of the authorities of Gambling house.
But the 40 members of the Federal Commission of Gambling house and Basel's cantonal police agents brought with them computers, table games as well as cash found inside the club poker. The following of the event is that the club officials will face criminal proceedings against them. To explain this approach, the Federal Court consider poker as game of chance at the opposite of that of ability. Thus, from this angle, poker is supposed to be regulated by federal law on gambling houses. In their defense, the leaders of the Basel poker club argue in their side that this game which is poker remains in the realm of skill game. To support their argument, they take as evidence the players who took part in the tournament organized. The unfortunate part of this is that all the operation led by the Federal Gaming Board was broadcast live over the internet.
