The Ocean Club: Syria acquired its first casino
Despite the formal ban by the Islamic religion of gambling and game of hazard such as poker, blackjack, roulette, baccarat and slot machines, the Syrian authorities closed their eyes by authorizing the unofficial opening of a casino in December 2010 on its territory. The explanation is the difficulty of the region to develop; because Arab fortunes are rather attracted by the rival Lebanese casino Jounieh, near Beirut. Located near the international airport of Damascus, Syria's first casino was inaugurated and opened its doors without drums in the evening of December 24 of last year.
Nevertheless, this first evening held its bets by attracting a crowd with the majority of customers who are currently Syrian players. As primary targets, the first responsible of the Syrian gaming facility aims to attract wealthy tourists from the Gulf and Middle East, used to play hundred thousands dollars only to casino gaming in the region. Given the first performances of The Ocean Club, it is clear that foreign customers will flock to this second complex game in the Middle East after that of Jounieh. One cloud on the scoreboard of the first casino in the city of Damascus is the possibility of its closure. The reason is that according to some sources, the owners of the facility haven't in their possession any official license.
