International Series of Poker: A fiasco at Gran Casino
If as usual, big poker events that gather illustrious poker players offer a unique show to the public, the International Series of Poker (ISOP) was not conducted as such. This is a circuit that has just come into being composed of nine steps that take place in a few European cities. With fairly moderate buy-in ranging between 320 and 1,000, the first stage of the ISOP was held at the Gran Casino of Barcelona last weekend with a main event of 500 + 50. The field at this Main Event was estimated to reach 600 participants but in the end, it only registered 230 players with a guaranteed prize pool of 150,000. It was expected that players eliminated on the first day of competition will have a chance to come back in a second first day of competition. Organizers have also planned to reward 50 players.
But because of a bad organization, the tournament degenerated into a huge scandal when organizers tried to impose on players to modify the structure of the tournament. Thus, while there were only the finalists, who will start the final table, the organizers have decided to close the doors of the casino when players weren't willing to conform to their request. The conflict become more and more intense and the player Stéphane Bezençon even asked to leave the table and asked to pocket his winnings. The organizers proposed a deal to calm the game and ultimately players accept it. Because of this quarrel, the ISOP has just experienced a total failure and competitors who came to play the game are very shocked by the situation.
