European Masters Of Poker Barcelona : The title for Matias Knaapinen
The Gran Casino of Barcelona, in Spain lived in a festive atmosphere during the tournament European Masters of Poker (EMOP) last weekend. This is the last stage of the second season of this championship. EMOP Barcelona was a great success story with a field of 431 participants for the Main Event of 1,000 buy-in. The prize pool amounted 431,000 which is the equivalent of $ 580,000. Then, last Saturday, the field reduced to 9 players who completed the final table of the event with the Danes Damir Horozic as chip leader. But the Ukrainian Oleksandr Sharov and the Finn Matias Knaapinen followed him closely. The Ukrainian was the first to know defeat, finishing in 9th place despite his advantages in chips. The Irishman Dermot Blain, Swede Viktor Olsson, local player Carlos Egea, the chip leader Horozic and Finland's Matti Konttinen have also followed them and placed respectively at the 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th and 4th place.
The three remaining players did their best to stay as long as possible on the gaming table and had to wait 5 hours before one of them was eliminated at the game, it was the Irishman Sean Prendiville. The final duel therefore opposed the Finn Matias Knaapinen to the Dutch Lennart Konst. It was a thrilling duel, but the meeting finally ended with the victory of Knaapinen who clinched the title and the first prize of 93,000. So he will join the winners of the other stages of the second season of this poker tournament with Vladimir Mefodichev, Maciej Lipny, Timothy Timotheuo, Giovanni Suetra and Manig Loser in the 1,500 Main Event of the grand finale of the EMOP to be held at the Casino de Venezia in Malta from November 17th to 20th, 2010.
