Poker in Canada : A game in the way to find its rightful place
Poker is not the favorite pastimes of Canadians. It is far behind ice hockey or other sports. However, card game, like Texas hold em poker and Omaha, marks the daily life of this country which has the advantage of having a market large enough in spite of restrictions on governmental level. We should also refer to the law passed in 2009 to take cognizance about the reality of poker in Canada. This law stipulates that revenues from card games are considered as normal income source, therefore subject to taxes for poker pro and semi-pros who live and earn money with it. As a result, Canada has famous players who choose home outside their country, like Daniel Negreanu 'Kid Poker' who lives in Nevada, Las Vegas, El Dorado of live poker where the stakes is estimated in hundreds of thousands of dollars.
A legal framework which discourages also adventurers of online poker to choose Canada as residence, who much prefer the United States or European countries. A world of virtual game that is rather vague legally and where online poker rooms are devoid of licenses. To fill this gap, regular players have the choice to join the rooms called "illegal" by U.S. authorities, Canadian poker websites and French rooms. Otherwise, poker sites with French licenses are available to Internet users in Quebec.
