French online games: More than 80 million bet recorded in one month
As expected, with the liberalization of online games in France, the result is overwhelmingly positive with regard to the statistics recorded by sites of sports betting and poker. In just one month, according to Jean-Francois Vilotte, chairman of the Regulatory Authority of Online Games or ARJEL, more than 80 million in bets have been registered and more than one million accounts created from approved websites. To recap, the ARJEL is an entity whose mission is to issue operating licenses to operators, to control the framework of the system and finally to fight against online gambling sites that are not in good standing vis-à-vis the administration. Note that with the opening of online market, the ARJEL has already received 44 applications for licenses including sports betting, horse betting and poker. 23 licenses were issued to 15 operators, with two to three licenses acquired by a few operators.
This tidy sum of 80 million recorded in one month shows that the system established is effective. The president of the ARJEL is confident and hopes to "bring within the law beyond what was wagered in one year in the only officially authorized website under the old system." Indeed, the public firm La Française des Jeux was the only firm authorized to offer online sports betting before, and it realized a turnover of 43 million during 2009. Because one of the main aims of ARJEL is to ensure that players who are outside the system before integrate it to let the state control the financial flow. Everyone finds his account with this liberalization. And the ARJEL can only rejoice.
