Poker Players : Doping to be more efficient
Most professional poker players use performance-enhancing drugs to keep their shape, according to a study by the Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Florida. Products range from one player to another, there are those who directly provide drugs like marijuana, cocaine or amphetamines, others prefer drugs like Valium or energy drinks or other products containing of caffeine and guarana. According to Kevin Clauson professor at the Pharmaceutical Section of NSU, "illegal" drug intake improves stamina and concentration for players, but cause adverse consequences and bad effects in the short and medium term on the player.
Of the 198 players polled during the WSOP, the result is the following statistics: 25% of professional poker players, 35% semi-professional, 37% amateur and 3% Sunday players as it represents 18% of players live, 67% via the Internet use these substances. In the same category, these players are mostly men (96%) with an average age of 26 and are mostly Americans (59%), Europeans (24%) and Canadians (11%) whose ¾ want to increase their concentration and perception and 22% in equal shares want to stay awake and remain calm. To acquire these substances, 38% received prescriptions of doctors, 26% of their fellow players and 10% through the internet. Furthermore, 46% of players surveyed are taking diet.
