French online poker openning market : Operators will have to wait
If on schedule, the decrees implementing the new French legislation on online poker should be enacted within days, i.e on next June 11th, has been postponed to the end of June. Indeed, Malta has objected to one concept of the new regulations, which is for recall should opens the door to competition. On May 13th, the draft law on the introduction of competition and industry regulation of gambling and online gambling has been voted by the French deputies. And the Autorité de Régulation des Jeux En Ligne (ARJEL or Regulatory Authority of Online Gambling) has a target to issue a certain number of licenses for various sites from next Tuesday. This new law affects three main areas : sports betting, the horse betting and poker.
Many online poker sites are awaiting the implementation of the new law to continue to operate. But this opposition of Malta is a stop to that. In fact, it opposes the provision of this legislation recommending that the inscriptions should only be done on gaming sites having a French license. As Malta is swimming in the ocean of online games, it rebels against this provision. According to its arguments, it would undermine the freedom of movement of persons and property. Those responsible for ARJEL responded and stated that "There is no problem on the merits. It is simply a problem of European procedure. Anyway, online game sites, sports betting and horse betting will have their approval on Tuesday except for poker which law is applicable only on June 28th.
