Illegal operators of online gambling: The fines can reach 200,000 Euros in France
Even if the market of online gambling is not yet open, France already took strict measures in order to discourage illegal operators who intend to function in clandestinely. Online operators of casino, poker or sports betting who want to acquire a place on the French market should procure a liable license or they can run the risk of a fine of 90,000 Euros and 3 years of imprisonment. This sanction could reach 7 years of imprisonment and a fine of 200,000 Euros in case of an organized crime. Publicities for illegal sites of online gambling will be also bail of a fine of 100,000 Euros but the guilty can also pay to 4 times this sum according to the decision of the court in charge of the file.
So clandestine operators will have to think twice before venturing in the French sector of gambling because the French authorities seems decided to leave nothing at random. To procure themselves a license, operators must send a request which cost between 2,000 and 15,000 Euros plus an annual payment between 10,000 and 40,000 Euros. The license must also be renewed every five years and this request for renewal needs a payment of a sum of 1000 to 10,000 Euros. In all, operators of casino and all online gambling will have to pay 52,000 Euros up to 215,000 Euros before being able to operate in France without forgetting the high respect for the payment imposed by the minister Eric Woerth who indicates that the websites and its materials must be located in France.
