Pokerthon: When the poker is combined with the noble cause
In France, the French Association against myopathy (AFM) has organized since 23 years Telethon, a fundraising event broadcast on television, to finance research projects on genetic muscular diseases such as myopathy, myotonia of Steinert primarily but also on other rare genetic diseases. The 2009 edition will take place on December the 4th. With this event, French poker clubs decided to bring their support to the AFM by launching in parallel their own tournament of charitable poker which they named Pokerthon. It is the moment for each amateur of poker to show their goodness to advance research to reduce patients and their familiesÂ’ sufferings.
With this occasion various tournaments of poker will be set up by the local clubs of poker. In the city of Marseille for example, NicoKent and the association Marseilles Hold' EM prepare more than four tournaments of poker where everyone will be able to participate. In the Breton commune of Lesneven will be held a tournament during which candidates of the emission Poker Caribbean Mission will be present. In the locality of Garenne Doves, the 2009 edition of Pokerthon will be a striking down success, because not less than 300 players were already registered to take part in the event. It should be noted that these tournaments are completely free and does not require any buy-in, on the other hand as it is about a charitable competition, a gift for Telethon is sincerely hoped. Once again the enthusiasm of the clubs and the future participants conveys a good image of the French poker.
