Sports bets: no opening of the market before June, 2010
Once again the sites of sports bets will find it difficult to be patient, because the opening of the market of the game has just been postponed in the middle of the year 2010. In the meantime, it is the La Française Des Jeux who rubs hands, even if with in the opinion of Brussels this one is completely illegal, it's the same for PMU which holds the exclusivity on sports bets. France looks like bad pupil in this domain and the European Union does not stop enjoining Paris to enter the rank. Two reasons seem to be at the origin of this adjournment: first of all, there is a considerable financial risk and on the other hand there is incapacity of the State to settle this domain because the gambling games and sports bets remain taboo in the French society. Indeed, the market of the online game is estimated at two billions of euro next year and should reach more than 3 billions in 5 years.
Let us remind that all the markets of the gambling games will not open into competition on internet in France after the vote of this law. Only mutual equestrian bets, mutual sports bets, sports bets with fixed rating and online poker will be authorized. If this law goes through, the ARJEL will directly take office and this last one will have for role to attribute licenses. By waiting for this opening, the Française Des Jeux plans its own sites of online poker and sports bets to be ready for the World Cup of Football 2010.
