Meet A Poker Legend
Doyle F. Brunson (August 10, 1933 - ) has been a legendary American professional poker player for over 50 years. He is the first to win the WSOP two consecutive times, has been inducted to the Poker Hall of Fame, and the author of some of the most influential poker strategy books. He's been voted the most influential force in the world of poker. Brunson is the first player to earn $1 million in poker tournaments and has won ten World Series of Poker bracelets throughout his career. He is also one of the few to have won the Main Event at the WSOP multiple times. In addition, he is the first of five players to win both the WSOP Main Event and a World Poker Tour title. Doyle has seen poker go from illegal underground venues to major worldwide tournaments, the WSOP to evolve from a seven-player game in 1970 into the multi thousand-player extravaganza that it is today. He's responsible for the most influential poker book, Super/System, which is widely considered to be one of the most authoritative works on poker. This book transformed poker by giving players an insight into the way professionals think. Many of today's top poker players swear by this poker book. Published over 30 years ago, it still contains relevant strategies and statistics. Brunson himself believes that because the book has been so influential and succesful, it probably cost him more money than he was paid for writing it. Brunson continues to play in the biggest poker games and tournaments in the world. In 2008, his total live tournament winnings exceeded $5,300,000. He has totaled $2,808,945 in earnings at the WSOP.
