Cops Bust Poker Game After Boy in Blue Invited to Play
A poker game in a small town in Central Ohio got some unwelcome visitors this past week: the local police. The boys in blue raided the auction house where illegal Texas Hold 'em games were allegedly taking place, arresting 17 people while at it. Of the 17 people under arrest, just one is at risk of facing jail time; the game coordinator could see a six-month prison sentence. Police were clued in to the goings-on when a police officer was approached by a friend about wanting to play. According to investigators, the Texas Hold 'em games had been taking place at the auction house for about a year. Players paid $15 to play in the games. While poker games do not pose a legal problem in and of themselves, game coordinators are not permitted to rake in a profit from such games. At the time that police executed their search warrant, they reportedly found $1,500 in cash on the premises.
