Players Run Participants Speed in Search of Poker Cards
In the third annual 2005 Players Run, currently underway, over 50 drivers are competing to collect poker cards in a poker-themed fast and furious five-day treasure hunt. The objective of the Players Run is to gather poker cards until making a hand. In this off-beat poker game variation, Players speed down Interstate 5 en route from Seattle to Ashland, Oregon, San Francisco, L.A. and San Diego, with a final destination of Las Vegas. It was this very speeding, however, that ultimately got some competitors in trouble with Washington State Patrol officers. According to police, some poker card hunters were traveling as fast as 120 miles per hour. Twelve drivers got slapped with reckless driving violations and fines of up to $1,000. Players Run coordinators claimed that the competition prohibits speeding, and even counts it as grounds for disqualification.
