The Poker Channel to Come to Sky TV
UK television network sky TV has one-upped American networks that offer poker programming by devoting an entire channel to poker. Although the U.S. started the televised poker phenomenon, Sky is taking it to new levels with its new interactive channel. The Poker Channel, which is currently in the final stages of audio and video testing, will present documentaries, tips, as well as live poker tournaments, the initial catalyst of the televised poker boom. Until now, networks have broadcast only pre-taped tournaments, with the exception of Fox Sports, which has tried to offer live broadcast of a poker event. The Poker Channel, however, will broadcast an array of live events, including The British Poker Open is and the Southern California Poker Tour. An additional feature of Sky's poker channel, "The Learning Zone," will proffer tips for playing poker and other casino games. Finally, the channel will feature a number of reality programs, including "Poker Godfather," a program in which a poker pro pays a visit to an amateur's home and helps beef up his/her poker skills. UK Sky TV subscribers should expect to see the Poker Channel on air March 23rd.
