Poker Bill Passed by ND's State Representatives
The state of North Dakota is taking steps to pass a bill that would license and regulate internet poker sites. North Dakota House Bill 1509, known as the Internet Poker Bill, already passed in the state House of Representatives, and is scheduled to be considered by the state senate in mid-March. Should the bill become ratified, the North Dakota will earn tax dollars from its licensed poker sites, anticipated to dramatically increase state revenue. A state representative was quoted as estimating the amount of revenue to be earned through poker sites to reach $500 million. He also said that in the case of federal opposition to such a state law, North Dakota would fight federal interference. The bill would designate 60 percent of poker revenue to reduce property tax, 20 percent to fund public education and the remaining 20 percent would go to the state's general fund.
