Consulting firm MECN recently completed a survey assessing the online poker industry, soliciting the insight of over 100 industry authorities. The study revealed several interesting predictions regarding the future of internet poker.

One such prediction posits that within the next few years, poker will become the most dominant component in online gambling, a prediction which 60 percent of the study's participants believe to be true. The vast majority of participants also believed that total global profit from online poker will reach $4 billion annually, also within the next few years.

Although the study predicts continued successes for the online poker industry, participants also expected the market to become more difficult as it expands, with competition intensifying between various operators. The experts surveyed cited forming poker networks, consolidating poker sites and the launching of additional betting brands, such as Ladbrokes, into the market as the best proposed actions for the future.
