World Poker Tour Inks Deal with Take-Two Interactive Software
Take-Two Interactive Software recently announced that it inked a deal with the World Poker Tour (WPT) to produce a new offering of poker tournament video games based on the popular televised tournaments. According to a source for Take-Two, the company had already begun developing games for consoles, handheld and PC formats at two of Take-Two's new 2K Sports division studios. Electronic Arts Inc., Take-Two's most major sport game competitor, is allegedly also investigating the possibility of releasing a poker video game. These plans come in the wake of a 15-year licensing deal which Electronic Arts signed with ESPN, the network which broadcasts the World Poker Tour. Take-Two, probably best known for its "Grand Theft Auto" series, has begun to widen its focus to sports-related games and now reportedly has a complete line of sports games in the works.
