For more protection for consumers of online gambling services - EU commission
The European Commission has just released important recommendations to its State Members about online gambling regulation. In this statement, the said commission highlights important measures that all State Members have to adopt in order to ensure effective protection of players in online gambling services sector, and eventually inform consumers about the risks that sport betting, online casino, online poker game and lotteries might harm them (gambling addiction, debt, etc). Each country member of the EU has their own view about this question along with the legislation that rules the regulation of online gambling. For that reason, the commission announced the recommendation in the communication entitled Towards a comprehensive European framework of online gambling, dated back in October 23, 2012.
The Vice President of the commission Michel Barnier encourages the State Members along with operators in this fast growing service activity to mobilize themselves for a high level of protection for players within the EU. In 2012, the European commission published the annual growth rate of various online gaming services including sports betting, poker, casino and lotteries. The figure saw an annual growth rate of approximately 15 %. In 2015, this sector is expected to generate 13 billions of annual turnover. To do so, The EU commission puts a great focus on clarifying the relevant risks, log-in verification, gains and losses application, the establishment of an advisory service as well as the moderation of all online gambling advertising as a means of solving social, professional, personal and financial problems.
