The first-ever World Poker Tour Amsterdam (WPT) run this week under a rosy atmosphere. Admittedly, it is a big success as evidenced by the huge number of participants recorded in the two starting days of the Main Event. While registration is still open until Day 2s start, the field is still expected to get loaded. Actually, Day 1A and Day 1B all combined see 324 entries. 153 players are now qualified to Day 2 with Champions Club Member Giacomo Fundaro as chipleader. Bagging the largest stack at the end of Day 1B, Fundaro is entering Day 2 with great confidence. He now possesses 234,000 chips. Dennis Lavrijsen is second in the leader board with 150,400 chips. The pack heading to Day 2 battle includes a number of notable poker pros, namely Sorel Mizzi (141,200), Pieter de Korver (81,000), Steve O'Dwyer (72,900), Salvatore Bonavena (48,000), Kent Lundmark (43,000 ) and Jean Montury (35,300).
Among the 153 survivors, there is a panel of local players, including Pim van Riet (110,900), Wouter Van der Pijl (98,600), Jonas ten Cate (94,700) and Floris van der Ven (89,200). Amsterdam-based star of poker, Joep Van den Bijgaart, is also part of Day 2s field. It took him four bullets to finally get in. The Dutchman is heading to Day 2 with 50,100 chips. Apart from Joep Van den Bijgaart, many are those who failed to take profit of the re-entry formula. That panel includes notable poker tournament regulars, namely Michael "The Grinder", Mizrachi Dan Heimiller, Yann Dion, Louis Salter and Micha Hoedemaker.
