College Poker |
|
A new phenomenon in the online poker world: College students playing it like the pros. But aren't the college kids supposed to be going to classes, attending frat parties, and drinking beer? Wasn't online poker supposed to be geared towards the middle-aged crowd? Not anymore, it seems. Television has helped to spread the popularity through coverage of numerous poker tournaments. The internet has more online poker rooms now than ever before. And on top of all this, companies have lately been aggressively spreading their marketing audience to younger age groups.
If you want to narrow down the reasons to the sudden surge in college-aged online poker players, then you can rest at this explanation: What better way to pay off tuition loans than through the small, steady gains in online poker rooms? Companies have taken advantage of this by employing tournaments with scholarship prizes; the winner goes home with a good amount of money to pay off his college loans. Some are worried about these college-age players turning into gambling addicts, but it hasn't seemed to stop the growing number of tough student players.

Poker Tournaments Tips |
Here, at www.poker777.com, we want to introduce you to three things that can happen when entering a poker tournament.
When entering a poker tournament, three things can happen:
- You swiftly lose all your cash and find yourself out of the tournament.
- You hang in for awhile, but eventually let the pressure get to you and make bad bets until you run out of money and end up a sullen bystander.
- You play brilliantly, adjusting your strategy to the different stages of tournament play and win big.
Although these are broad generalizations, they do cover the majority of poker tournament play. As with everything having to do with poker, strategy in tournament play is critical and must be tailored to the type of tournament and game variation. Starting with the basics, it's important to identify if the tournament is a 'freezeout' and only costs the initial playing fee, or if it allows add-on's and re-buys. In addition, blinds will usually increase in cost as the tournament progresses, requiring players to be extremely careful with their money management. The next important factor in developing tournament strategy is being aware of your tendencies as a poker player and the different stages of tournament play. For example, if you are an aggressive player, learn at what stage to be aggressive and when to hold back and play conservatively.
Tournament play is a matter of survival. If you've managed to make it to the final round, the question will be can you handle the pressure and continue to think clearly, or will you make a silly error and see the game slip from your fingers. Many experts have written books to help develop tournament strategy and explain the details surrounding tournament play. Check out our section on Poker Tournament Tips and on Poker Books for more information, or develop your poker skills by playing in an online poker room.

Thursday Night Poker: How to Understand, Enjoy and Win
Play the hand you’re dealt – and win!
Intended for the serious weekly-to-monthly player, Thursday-Night Poker will save players hundreds of dollars over the course of a single year with chapters on:
• Calculating probabilities and estimating odds
• Bluffing and avoiding being bluffed
• How to read your opponent’s down cards
• Leaning without losing
• How to avoid being the second-best hand
With illustrated, in depth-discussion of nearly fifty hands, and chapters on 5-card stud, 7-card Hi-Lo, Holdem, Omaha, and others, Thursday-Night Poker is a safe wager on much better – and winning! – poker.
“Forger the casinos; it’s all here. Win from your pals on Thursday nights. Steiner deals with more than the odds, he elucidates process with clarity and intelligence, and he is particularly good on the intricacies of 7-card Hi-Lo. You do not want to sit down and play with someone who’s read this book unless you’ve read it yourself.”
- FRANK CONROY
“Perhaps the clearest way to express my admiration for this landmark treatise on the game of poker is to say, without equivocation, that on no Thursday night henceforth, nor on any other night of the week, will you catch me sitting down to play cards with it’s author.”
- ANTHONY HOLDEN, author of Big Deal: A Year as a Professional Poker Player

Poker History |
No one is 100% certain on where poker was born. We, at http://www.poker777.com present various beliefs, held among the majority of people. Some believe that it was a simple game created by the Chinese in 900 C.E. Others think that poker comes from a 5-suit card game in Persia that used 5 players at a time. Then there were the French in New Orleans who played a buffing and betting card game in the early 1800's. Apparently, they were the first to use a deck of cards consisting of the 4 common suits - Hearts, spades, diamonds, and clubs.
This New Orleans poker floated slowly up the Mississippi River, spreading in popularity and familiarity in the neighboring states. As train and wagon became a more used transportation, the game was able to spread farther out towards the coasts. By the 1800's, variations of poker, such as the draw and stud poker, began to blossom.
Poker was considered a harmless pastime until 1910 when the state of Nevada decided to make it a felony. They declared that any type of gambling game was unsavory to the people and should be made illegal. California, however, stepped in and asserted that not all types of poker games, such as Draw, could be considered gambling - While some variations of poker are based solely on luck, others are based on skill. Because of this statement, Nevada repealed its decision and legalized casino gambling in 1931.
