Casino Barrière : 12% decrease of its turnover since January
The financial crisis and the world economic recession still hit even French game business. Apart from American groups like Harrah's Entertainment which is really affected by the decrease of turnover of their casino room, the French group Casino Barrière announces also the impact that they endure because of this crisis. After a fall of 15% of their activity in 2008, since the beginning of this year until now, this first French casino in terms of gambling's global revenues conjures up decline of its turnover of 12%, according to Dominique Desseigne, its chairman and supervisory board. The total turnover of 1.2 billion Euro fulfilled in 2008 runs again the risk of not being achieved this year. For its part, Partouche group, one of the leaders of this industry in France announced also for the first time a loss of 8.5 million Euro during the 2008 financial year. However, Barrière group has at its disposal an activity varied enough beside gambles. Apart from its 35 casinos listed in France, Barrière is also the owner of sixteen luxury hotels and more than a hundred restaurants. Thus, to face this context, the enterprise announces that any staff hiring won’t be done as replacement of foreseen departures for this year. In its casinos, apart from the fall of games on table revenues like poker, slot machines frequenting was also falling. However, the opening of French online gambling markets in January 2010, as announced in the project of text which is in progress, gives optimism to operators of physical casinos.
