World Poker Tour Biloxi: 208 players at the $ 10,000 buy-in event
Organized in conjunction with the Aussie Millions 2011 and the European Poker Tour Deauville, the World Poker Tour Southern Championship (WPT) still attracted many stars of poker. Indeed, the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi gathered 214 players for the tournament of $ 10,000 buy-in that allow organizers to collect a prize pool of $ 2 million. This field knew a slight increase compared to last year with 208 registered players. The first qualifying day of the Southern Championship ended with the elimination of 40 competitors. The 144 survivors have therefore started the day 2 and they must compete in 5 levels of play of 90 minutes each.
Among notables still in the race for the title of WPT Biloxi are Gavin Smith, who already holds a WPT trophy and is in the third position with 170,000 chips in hand, while they are 107 players on the tables. The former champion Bill Elder is also well placed to attempt a double. Vitor Coelho with a stack of 200,000 tokens is the chip leader at the time followed by Bobby Keller with 195,000 chips in his possession. But people can still expect great actions because Nick Schulman, Tchad Brown, Allen Carter, Kara Scott, Allen Bari and the WPT Champion 2010 Hoyt Corkins are still in the race. On the other hand, some well known poker players have already packed up at this event like Justin Young, Andy Frankenberger, John Dolan, Eric Baldwin, Ryan D'Angelo or Scotty Nguyen. Note that many other players of the second day of competition will join them because only 27 players will have access to day 3.
