Australian Players Group Loses Poker Machine Legal Battle
Players Pty Ltd., a company led by some of South Australia's most prominent sports and legal personalities, recently lost an AUS$1 million (~ US$766,419) Supreme Court case launched over a poker machine licensing dispute. The dispute concerns licenses for poker machines located in a former entertainment hotspot. Players had been leasing entertainment venue "The Planet" from Economic Development Board member Fiona Roche's family company since 1995. Players claimed that they owned licenses for the 40-poker machines installed at The Planet. The Supreme Court decided that as owner of the venue, the poker machine licenses belong to the Roche family. Players is reportedly planning to appeal the court's decision.
