PartyGaming's recent announcement of plans to consider flotation on the London Stock Exchange has generated considerable commotion among investors looking to get a piece of the online poker rage. PartyGaming's announcement comes at a time in which investors have begun to warm to the online poker industry, particularly in the UK.

Harvard Law School recently hosted a panel event entitled Going All In: Poker and The Law" which discussed issues ranging from legal issues to playing strategy. Poker players and legal professionals convened to discuss issues facing poker. The discussion largely focused on the debate surrounding online poker and gambling.

The state of North Dakota is taking steps to pass a bill that would license and regulate internet poker sites. North Dakota House Bill 1509, known as the Internet Poker Bill, already passed in the state House of Representatives, and is scheduled to be considered by the state senate in mid-March.

Consulting firm MECN recently completed a survey assessing the online poker industry, soliciting the insight of over 100 industry authorities. The study revealed several interesting predictions regarding the future of internet poker.

The World Poker Tour's (WPT) third season is coming to the Travel Channel on March 2, 2005. The third season of the WPT will award a total of over $70 million in prize money. That's 30 percent more than the previous maximum of 1500 players. Absolute Poker claims to host more freeroll tournaments than any other online poker room.

Take-Two Interactive Software recently announced that it inked a deal with the World Poker Tour (WPT) to produce a new offering of poker tournament video games based on the popular televised tournaments. According to a source for Take-Two, the company had already begun developing games for consoles, handheld and PC formats at two of Take-Two's new 2K Sports division studios.

This year, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) is giving away a prize pool of a whopping $7,500,000. That's an attractive annuity for poker fans of any income. Unfortunately, with a buy-in of $10,000, not every poker talent can afford to compete. Thankfully, online poker site PokerBrits.com is hosting a freeroll tournament that will send one lucky winner to compete at the WSOP.

Online gaming software company CryptoLogic recently announced its 2004 year end and fourth quarter results, reporting significant gains particularly for its poker and casino software. The burgeoning success of online poker has been cited as a catalyst promoting CryptoLogic's success.

Online poker room Empire Poker has announced that it is currently offering two new daily free poker tournaments, otherwise known as freerolls, each offering prize pools of $500. Empire Poker has already been offering two daily freerolls for several years, but with its two new freerolls, has doubled its offering.

Ultimatebet.com, one of the U.S.'s leading poker sites, hired Tonic to maneuver the business during its UK launch, while Experience is getting an attractive £1.5m for its strategic planning services by PokerStars.

Online poker portal PokerFaces.net has announced new marketing efforts to expand its member base. Recently the site has announced a new feature which allows members to send their best poker face to the site and have it voted on by the site's visitors. The voting capability is open to the general public, not just members. This feature attempts to give members a face on the sometimes all-too anonymous web.

Poker rooms in casinos along the Strip in Las Vegas have begun a trend of banning smoking. The move to smoke-free poker began in 2001 when the Mirage and Bellagio resorts banned it in their poker rooms. Following suit, nearly every one of the Strip's foremost poker rooms has banned smoking.

If it weren't a great enough feat to have poker tournaments featured on cable networks such as ESPN and Bravo, NBC has plans to declare its intentions to join the poker frenzy. NBC is expected to announce plans to produce and air the National Heads-Up Poker Championship to be held at the Golden Nugget casino in Las Vegas in March.

The two Columbus, Ohio youth accused of holding up a poker game in late October reversed their pleas this past week to those of guilty. Both were subsequently sentenced to six-year imprisonment by two separate judges. The actual perpetrator of the robbery was Carlos D. Twelve NASCAR drivers convened at the Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for the Michael Waltrip Invitational Poker Tournament. Poker stars including "Jesus" Ferguson, Phil Gordon, and Robert Williamson III stood by to lend a helping hand and a word of poker wisdom here and there.

Party Poker recently announced a new bonus code promotion granting first-time players bonuses of up to $100. Party Poker's new players will get the opportunity to use three new bonus codes, each offering a separate bonus.

A North Dakota Legislator is pushing to redefine internet poker in the state Constitution as a game of skill instead of simply defining it as gambling. Rep. Jim Kasper, R-Fargo anticipates that such a change of definition will encourage the creation of internet poker businesses in North Dakota, thus boosting the state's revenues. Kaspers plan would distribute 60 percent of poker proceeds to subsidize property taxes, 20 percent to public education and the remaining 20 percent to the state's general fund.

Full House Entertainment, builders and managers of online gaming internet sites, recently released its new offering of poker software. The new software "Full House Poker" version 1.7 provides a multi-player gaming experience and is built on a scalable infrastructure.

"Bring it to the Table" from Spike TV is celebrity poker with a side of bling. The show turns poker into a team sport, with two teams of rap VIPs competing against each other. Playing up on notorious hip hop rivalries, "Bring it to the Table" sets East Coast against West; New York City against Dirty South, giving them the chance to battle it out around the poker table.
