A Poker Mag for the Masses
"All In," the paid-circulation poker magazine launched in December is aiming to feed the public's craving for poker with something a little bit different than what the competition has to offer. While "All In" isn’t the only poker-themed magazine out there, it is the only one whose core audience is the Average Joe. The other two major publications, "Bluff" and "Card Player" focus more on professional and semi-professional players.
With the help of televised poker programming such as "Celebrity Poker Showdown," poker has been made palpable for the masses. To this audience, poker equals entertainment, not necessarily a means to make a living. "All In" closes in on this audience, particularly those who are male and between the ages of 21-49.
The explosion of poker's popularity has naturally also translated into fiscal gains. In 2003, the poker industry raked in an approximate $4.2 billion. "All In" is cashing in on the trend, with a current guaranteed rate base of 150,000, and with hopes to raise that figure to 500,000 by the end of 2006.
