After a tough five-day battle, the total field of 538 entries at the 2015 WPT LA Poker Classic is now played down to six. Of course, the final table is shaping up to be a tough one in the poker room of “The Commerce Casino”, Los Angeles. The six players making it through the final table include two-time LAPC champion Anthony Zinno. This highly skilled poker player is actually seeking another big title to join the likes of Carlos Mortensen and Gus Hansen, the close circle of men with three World Poker Tour wins. It is still worth mentioning that Anthony Zinno emerged victorious in the 2013 WPT Borgata Poker Open Main Event and the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic last month. This time, the 33 year-old poker guru will really have to fight hard to grab a third WPT title: with 1,480,000 chips, he is ranked 5th in chip count. Zinno is well ahead of the final six’s shortstack “Chris Klodnicki” (920,000 chips) though.

The continent-wide online poker regulation remains problematic at the federal level in the USA. The Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations scheduled a hearing on the issue this Thursday, March 5, to determine the amendment of the Federal Wire Act, but it was postponed to a later date. The said hearing would focus on the Restoration of America's Wire Act (RAWA) regulation, as requested by the bill named HR 717 that Rep. Jason Chaffetz recently introduced, the objective of which is to amend the Federal Wire Act of 1961. As a reminder, the RAWA aims to prohibit all forms of Internet gambling operations in the United States while the Federal Wire Act only ban the operation of certain types of gambling businesses.

Olivier Decamps wrapped the 2015 edition of the Winamax Poker Tour (WiPT) up by topping a massive field of 1,306 players to claim the top prize. The WiPT Grand Final was run yesterday after six days of battle at Cercle-Clinchy Montemartre. Discreet, yet experienced live poker player, the carrier achievement of Olivier Decamps includes some cashes at the World Series of Poker Main Event (WSOP). Anyway, it took 13 hours of play for the winner to emerge from the final-of-nine. Arnaud Schnorfeil was the first player to leave the final table after exchanging some hands for nearly an hour. He earned € 14,500. 25 minutes later, Etienne Ben Said was sent to the rail (8th place) for € 17,000. The remaining seven players had battled it out for three hours before David Pecheur headed to exit (7th place) for € 20,000.

Tough though the battle might be, Peter Tran entered Day 4 atop the chip count and wrapped the day by securing the driver’s seat. With an impressive stack of 4,120,000 chips, he is leading the remaining 12 players to Day 5. Tran will enter the next battle of the World Poker Tour LA Poker Classic with confidence and a stunning chip advantage over his nearest rival, Mike Leah, who amassed 2,240,000 in chips when Day 4 ended. Although Peter Tran has all to reach the final table, he will have to stand ahead against high-profile live poker gurus, namely Chris Klodnicki, Ray Henson, Ken Aldridge and Anthony Zinno. The latter is entering Day 5 as a shortstack; despite all this, LAPC defending champion Zinno is expected to successfully reach the final of six and eventually grab his second LAPC title. Needless to say, with his 7th cash of the Season XIII, Anthony Zinno is a potential winner of the WPT Player Of the Year award this year.

120 players returned to “The Commerce Casino” on Monday afternoon for the World Poker Tour LA Poker Classic 2015 Main Event’s Day 3. When the day ended, Peter Tran finished on top of the chip count by amassing 1,369,000 chips. He is one of the three poker players to wrap Day 3 up with a seven-digit stack. Mike Leah is second (in chip count) with 1,185,000 chips, and Peter Neff, being third, with 1,034,000 in chips. Though Mike Leah struggled hard to emerge from the battle, he managed to garner 1.1 million chips in half-an-hour play from 280,000 chips in hands. Completing the chip count’s Big 10 are Curt Kohlberg (990,000), Edward Ochana (831,000), Greg Mueller (695,000), Brent Hart (596,000), Kyle Johnson (584,000), Yegor Tsurikov (549,000) and Eddy Sabat (460,000).

Four years after the request made by the Europe’s troika (European Commission, European Central Bank and the International Monetary Bank) about online gambling regulation, Portugal’s Council of Ministers approved a draft law on February 26, the main objective of which is to have a regulated online poker market within the country. As a reminder, Europe’s Troika did requested so to Portugal with a view to give a boost to the country’s economic activities. It is believed that this freshly-approved gambling bill will generate additional tax revenues of € 25 million. The same bill will also defined the rules on advertisements related to gambling activities.

The World Poker Tour’s LA Poker Classic kicked off last Saturday at Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. 503 players participated in this $ 10,000 buy-in event, all targeting ITM places in the Main Event. Interestingly, players were given an opportunity to register until Level 9 to Day 2, increasing the total field to 538 players. 120 entrants made it through Day 2 with Brent Hart on top of the chip count. He will be entering the next battle with 487,900 in chips, a notable chip advantage of 100,000 over his nearest rival “Kamran Michael” (387,400 chips). The pack heading to Day 3 includes Max Mashour (366,300), Ken Aldridge (355,900), Dylan Hortin (346,600), Pratik Ghatge (306,200), Peter Neff (303,800), William Miner (298,500), Matthew Diehl (290,500) and Niall Farrell (286,000).
