PCA 2012 : Lower attendance at the main event

The $ 10,000 buy-in Main Event of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) started in the poker room of Atlantis Resort in Bahamas. The edition 2012 of the PCA has not garnered the same success as last year. Indeed, a considerable reduction of the turnout was observed, because if the PCA 2011 field reached 1,500 participants, this year, organizers attracted only 1,072 players. However, it was always a real success as well-known players like Eugene Katchalov, Olivier Busquet, Daniel Negreanu, Cliff Josephy, Chris Moneymaker, the world champion of poker 2011 Pius Heinz, the Super High Roller champion Viktor Blom or Jason Mercier was part of the game, offering to the public an amazing show, even if they failed to qualify for the rest of the championship.

In the first qualifying day which brought together 418 players, the Russian Alexey Repik dominated completely the game with 220,100 chips in hand. Furthermore, he is the chip leader of the second day of competition. On Day 1B, the chipleader's place was awarded to Alex Venovski holder of 193,000 chips. Renowned players such as David Rheem, Arnaud Mattern, Luca Pagano, Alex Kravchenko, or Matt Jarvis are always qualified for the Day 2 to be played on Monday, Jan. 9, without forgetting the presence of Ludovic Lacay and the French number one, Bertrand Grospellier in the list of survivors. Note that the organizers collected a prize pool of $ 10,398,400 that will be distributed to the 160 best players of the game. The winner will leave therefore with a consistent sum of two million dollars while the runner-up will win a prize of $ 1.2 million.
