Global Poker Index: Jason Mercier at the top, Phil Ivey out!

After the European Poker Tour London (EPT) that has just closed its doors with the victory of Benny Splinder at the Main Event, the ranking of the Global Poker Index (GPI) knew a new change. Erik Seidel who held the pole position for a few weeks had just exchanged his place with the other American Jason Mercier. So, he has taken the top spot thanks to a good performance at a side event of the EPT London: the 8-game. Thus, the ten top poker players in the world aare Jason Mercier (2,584 points), Erik Seidel (2,578), Bertrand Grospellier (2,486), Eugene Katchalov (2,473), Sorel Mizzi (2,344), Fabrice Soulier (2,280), Tom Marchese (2,075), Scott Seiver (2,056), Juha Helppi (2,004) and Shawn Buchanan (1,986). It was the only major change in this ranking because the next change on the classification is the thirteenth position with David Baker who won a place. On the French side, Hugo Lemaire and David Benyamine are now ranked in the Top 100 by being positioned respectively in the 58th (six seats won) and 75th place.

The biggest surprise of the Global Poker Index ranking is the disappearance of Phil Ivey in the Top 300 of the best players in the world. The U.S. Player deemed as the best player in the world left the GPI already a week ago due to lack of results. Indeed, Phil Ivey didn't participate in a major poker tournament for 6 months, while during recent months, tournaments continued to be organized everywhere in the world and let to new players to rise.
