ANZPT Melbourne: Another victory for Lee Nelson

After three days of Main Event, Lee Nelson won the title of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) held in Melbourne from Saturday 24 to Monday 26, September. This native of New Zealand classified as one of the veterans of the tournament was then the best face to the 310 participants of the Main Event by winning a gain of AU$ 156,550. 68 years old, this professional of poker has currently many titles at his credit and a total gain of $ 2,708,711 in career. In all, Lee Nelson won 11 major tournaments like the World Poker Open in 2005 ($ 400,000), the Aussie Millions (Crown Australian Poker Championship) in 2006 with a gain of $ 1,362,709. The ANZPT Melbourne Main Event was held with $ 2,200 buy-in and brought together 310 players.



On the participants on Day 1, only nine were qualified for the final table of Day 3. At the end of Day 2, Lee Nelson finished in third place in the final table chip count. He was among the players who created the surprise by eliminating Phil Willcocks and Warne Leigh during the final event. Karan Punjabi was defeated by the veteran at the restart of the game after dinner. Danny Chevalier was also eliminated after two hands following the disqualification of Punjabi. There were only Lee Nelson and the Australian Nick Georgoulas on the table with respectively 4.675 and 1.345 million chips. After 15 minutes of play, Nick Georgoulas didn't also resist and left the title to Nelson. Georgoulas occupied then the second place with $ 99,200 of gain.
