GPI new classification: Katchalov surprised everyone

The ranking of the Global Poker Index (GPI) knew a big change for the second week of September. Earlier this month, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier ranked third behind the two American Jason Mercier and Erik Seidel. But the last major tournaments of the end of August reversed a little the classification and relegated therefore the French in the fourth position in favor of Eugene Katchalov. The EPT Barcelona and the WPT Legends of Poker tournaments that is held currently caused this new change in the world rankings of poker players. Chip leader at the final table of the EPT Barcelona, Eugene Katchalov finally finished third during this event behind Martin Schleich, the champion of the Main Event and Dragan Kostic. The Ukrainian pocketed for this purpose the sum of € 315,000. A title of the EPT would let him integrate the very select club of the "Triple Crown" along with Gavin Griffin, Roland de Wolfe, Jake Cody and Bertrand Grospellier.

With tournaments scheduled for this time of end of holiday, we can expect to see a' 'new'' permutation in the rankings. ElkY now has a delay of 20 points on Eugene Katchalov. Although the difference is small but the French must shine in the coming competitions to up the delay. In the Top 10 of the week of Sept. 8, Jason Mercier is thus in the pole position followed respectively by Erik Seidel, Eugene Katchalov, Bertrand Grospellier, Thomas Marchese, Sorel Mizzi, Fabrice Soulier, Daniel Negreanu, Scott Seiver and John Juanda.
