Known as the first woman to break into the poker world by winning the prestigious Party Poker Million 2002 tournament, with more than 1 million dollars, the American player Kathy Liebert, the first woman professional player, show the way to the success to female population in this card game that has a great success today. Indeed, if poker was originally seen as a typically masculine game with an image of a cowboy smoking a big cigar in his hand, and a glass of whiskey in a saloon, it's practiced today by both sexes. Moreover, for some time, a lot of woman players start to compete with men and some of them end up in good positions in many well known tournaments played around the world. Currently, there are several thousands of women poker players.

In general, the course of these professional poker players is not the result of chance. Most of those who manipulate the technique of the game while having the physical stamina required to compete in a tournament of several hours or even days, grew up with chips and cards in her hands. It's the case of the Canadian professional player Isabelle Mercier, who became famous with her second place in the € 800 buy-in No Limit Hold 'em tournament Poker Masters Classic of 2002 in Amsterdam, with a gain of $ 53,499. She played poker since the age of 6 years. Similarly, the other French-American professional player, Vanessa Rousso, the youngest woman qualified for a final table of the WSOP, at the age of 22 years, started to become familiar with poker at the age of 5 years.
