UKIPT Manchester: Victory of Matthew McDerra

The tournament United Kingdom & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) held in the poker room of the G Casino in Manchester attracted a large number of poker enthusiasts. Indeed, 615 players competed in five days to win the title and the £ 74,000 bonus of the £ 500 buy-in main event. Note that the prize pool collected amounted £ 307,500 and the 81 best players in the game were able to access the money list. The final table of the event was formed by eight players with Matthew Warowiec as chip leader, Paul Nash, Michael Biert, Robert Angood, Owen Shiels, Mick Fletcher, the holder of two World Series of Poker bracelets (WSOP) JP Kelly and Matthew McDerra who started the final battle with the lowest stack.

Despite the experience of some competitors and the advantage acquired by the other, the amateur player native from Plymouth who participated in the tournament following his qualifying in an online poker stole the limelight. Indeed, Matthew McDerra climbed with brilliance and perseverance to the first place. His final head's up with Mateusz Warowiec was quite eventful but ultimately he won the trophy while the runner up took home the second prize of £ 43,500. JP Kelly finished fifth at the final table and Robert Angood took the last podium spot. Mick Fletcher, Paul Nash, Owen Shiels and Michael Birt ranked respectively 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th.
