EPT Deauville : An unexpected victory but to the delight of French spectators
While the French public never expected to see on the podium of the European Poker Tour Deauville (EPT) one of their countryman, Lucien Cohen, a 47 years big lover of poker did the unexpected. Indeed, this French player, manager of a rodent and pest control company, won for the Hexagon the coveted victory of the French community of poker. Before the final table, most of renowned players including Ludovic Lacay, Bertrand Grospellier, Fabrice Soulier and Bruno Launais experienced all a tragic end and missed the chance to compete for the prestigious title of the event. At the beginning of the final table, the public still had a glimmer of hope thanks to the presence of Julien Claudepierre in the list of competitors. Anthony Hnatow was also present on the table. Unfortunately, both players surrendered and were placed respectively in the 4th and 7th place.
The final trio was therefore composed of the Canadian poker pro Alex Wice and the Swedish Martin Jacobson. Despite their fame and expertise, they failed to win against Lucien Cohen. The Canadian finished third and the Swede faced Cohen on the final heads'up. Note that Cohen who love particularly cash games and Pot-Limit Omaha, held an advantage in chips during the duel. Thus, with an outstanding performance, some luck and the immense desire to succeed the challenge of being crowned champion of the EPT Deauville, Lucien Cohen was finally awarded of the title and € 880,000. Martin Jacobson has once again miss the chance to win a title because in fact, he grazed the victory at the World Poker Tour Venice 2009, the EPT Vilamoura 2010 and the EPT Budapest 2008. However, he could comfort himself with the second prize of € 560,000.
