ARJEL: For a harmonious European online gaming

Seven months of satisfactory job with 55 cases studied and under treatment, 48 licenses delivered for 35 operators divided as follows: 15 for sports betting, 25 for poker and 8 for horse betting. This was roughly the report presented by the chairman of the French Regulatory Authority of Online Games (ARJEL), F Vilotte during the ceremony of greetings for the New Year 2011, who particularly mention the progressive and sure effectiveness of the new law. For this new year, the ARJEL, through its president, hope sincerly that the whole European sector of online gambling market will be on the same wavelength, at least in the control of illegal offers that will have dire consequences on EU consumers.



For the annual review 2010, the Regulatory Authority for Online Games recorded about 2.1 million active player's accounts with 500,000 active players in an average week. In addition, 2.9 million accounts were opened on legal websites. In detail, the poker industry registered some € 3.7 billion placed in "cash game" parts against € 412 million in entry fees in tournaments including a weekly average stake of € 1,000 from players and an average of € 80 for tournaments. The horse betting market attracted € 450 millions of bet which is the equivalent to an average of € 125 per week per player with an average bet of € 4. The market of sports betting consisting of 62% football, 23% tennis and 6% basketball registered € 450 millions in bets, and players spend there an average of €110 weekly and an average bet of € 7.5.
