Marrakesh Poker Open XVI : Women in the spotlight

After the coronation of Sarah Herzali during the € 900 buy-in tournament, the € 1,800 buy-in tournament of the Marrakesh Poker Open XVI has also crowned a woman who is Barbara Martinez. The French woman was the only woman in the field of 68 participants and has done a magnificent run. Indeed, the final table of this tournament of €1,800 buy-in was surrounded by many young players with very aggressive style. The Romanian Petre Bogdan Ionescu had the biggest stack of the game and he managed to keep his advantage until the final heads'up. Moreover, many competitors were among his victims. Thus, after the departure of low stack players including Didier Muscat, Cedric Rossi, Alain Roy, the French man Julien Leonard, Norway's Andreas Hagen, the French player Simon Faure, Morocco's Omar Lakhdari, the Irish Heather Nicolas respectively left the game at the 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th and 3rd place.

So, it is Barbara Martinez who qualified for the final duel against the Romanian when she only had 120,000 chips in hand. A priori, the Romanian had a huge advantage because he had a big stack of 1,2 million chips, which made it difficult for the French woman. But thanks to her talent and her exceptional perseverance, Martinez managed to turn the situation into her favor, and after three hours of epic battle, she clinched the title with an excellent reward of € 31,978. It is therefore the second victory won by a woman in Marrakesh and both made French poker enthusiasts happy. Bogdan earned € 21,319 as runner up in the tournament.
