Marrakesh Poker Open XVI: Javier Martinez on top of the Main Event

The Main Event of the Poker Open Marrakesh XVI tournament began last Wednesday, September 15th at the casino Es Saadi. 71 players have been registered by paying the buy-in of € 4,500 to be part of competitors of this main event. And after an emotionally charged Day where the best participants were able to qualify for the final table, only 22 survivors remained. Some celebrities gave up before this last phase as David Benyamine, Leo Margets who was the only woman in this competition, the World Poker Tour champion Christophe Savary, Erik Hugo Lemaire and Clement Thumy. The prize pool collected amounts to € 280,000 and organizers have decided to award the nine finalists.

At the end of day 1, the Spanish man Javier Martinez was on the top. He accumulated the largest stack and have 138,900 chips, enough for him to stand up to his opponents and to be part in the list of finalists. However, nothing is won yet because he is closely followed by Martin Soderstrom with 138,000 chips. And we must say that big competitors are not lacking among the 22 players still in the competition. In fact, great players like the French Roger Hairabedian, Jean-Paul Pasqualini, Alain Roy and Gabriel Nassif are still running to win the trophy. Thus, the chipleader will not play an easy final or acquired in advance as many players may yet dethrone him. Especially, because of the stakes too high, the winner will walk away with a nice amount to around € 85,000.
