Pathological gambling: Experts argue their figure after the liberalization in France

Long time before the legalization of online games in France, online sports betting and horse racing but also poker have already attracted many users. The recently enacted opening to the competition of this game only amplifies the number of sites offering online gambling and therefore the game enthusiasts keep pace. Currently, there is a significant fringe of them who became irreducible passionate. Psychiatrists ascend to protest the abuses. The figures are alarming, the reference center on gambling based in Nantes, France has identified a number of 600,000 problem gamblers in France. And among them, there are a lot of fragile online poker players. And this only, a few time after this liberalization.

This figure is alarming and even if the prevalence of problem gamblers is still between 1% and 2% in Europe, the trends can be reversed. Doctors fear a rush of specialized pathological gamblers in consultation if certain measures are not taken. Unlike the United States and Australia (the prevalence at around 5% where the matter has been taken very seriously), the data in France on pathological gamblers are not accurate. And in this area, the comparison between cocaine and online poker addiction is done by some specialists. Experts from all sides are unanimous on this point: "Overall, everything that brings pleasure, excitement like poker can become an addiction", said Professor Michel Reynaud. But fortunately, proceedings have been taken.
