WSOP Short Handed event : Phillip Gruissem as chip leader of the Day 1

The $ 25,000 buy-in Short Handed tournament of the WSOP attended a large number of poker professionals because effectively, the tournament structure was very attractive. It was a magnificent competition in which each member is entitled of 75,000 starting chips but given the cost of buy-in rather high, it recorded only a field of 191 players garnering a prize pool of $ 4,536,250 . Among the famous players who participated in the Day 1 of this tournament are Yevgenjy Timoshenko, Tom Dwan, Thomas Bichon, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, David Kitay, Antoine Saout, Joe Cada, Gavin Smith, Antonio Esfandiari, Eli Ezra and the godfather of French poker Patrick Bruel. Despite their great experience and competence in poker, anyone of them managed to surpass the stage of the Day 1.

After this first day of competition, it remained only 70 competitors in the race and after the bubble burst, the top 18 players will complete the list of paid places. For now, 10 players have been part of the top 10 : the day chip leader Phillip Gruissem, holder of 548,100 chips, Jason Sommerville with 516,600 chips in hand, Sam Trickett (507,000), Mc Lean Karr (472,800), Isaac Haxton (460,000 ), Daniel Negreanu (440,000), Frank Kassel (389 800), Bryn Kenney (370,300), John Juanda (365,000) and Mikael Thuritz (334,300). These players are in a good position to start the rest of the championship and it is certain that the battle will be tough to fight for the title because actually the stakes are high. The winner won't only be sacred but will also receive not a nice sum of $ 1,315,518.
