Switzerland: Poker became illegal out of casino

The Swiss Federal Tribunal has released a decree that prohibits the holding of poker tournament outside of legal gambling establishment, meaning casinos. One of the organizers of these private tournaments protested against this decision because he is the big loser in the case. Leo or Luke Angeloz is organizing private Texas Hold'em poker tournaments and also owner of a private poker room. He has already recorded more than twenty tournaments of Texas Hold'em, the form of poker the most popular. He complains of the investment he already realized in his establishment, with more than 15,000 francs committed in terms of infrastructure. To this end, he found incomprehensible the decision of the Court of Mon-Repos, which described the poker as a game of chance. He has entirely a different view and said that "there is certainly some chance, but this is far from dominant," and he said if the champions of poker in the world are always the same, that is because of their know-how and their technics.

This also pushes him against the action performed by the Swiss Federation of casinos is the fact that now with this new ruling "fans will not go so far to the casino. Tournament in cellars underground will reappear ", he said. With this ruling, many poker enthusiasts will no longer participate in small private poker tournaments that organizers as Leo hoped to offer. Players will now have to go to casino or play online. The appeal of the Swiss Casino is explained by the fact that with these small private tournaments, attendance has declined in casinos over the influx of players to play online. It is also because of unfair competition made by these private poker tournaments that casinos have decided to do this appeal. Nevertheless, private tournament organizers as Luke Angeloz do not think giving up either.
