EPT Monte Carlo : Launching of the last step

The European Poker Tour Monte Carlo is the last stage of the season, the last certainly, but not the least. For many players, the EPT Monte Carlo is the best poker tournament in the world after the Main Event of the World Series of Poker (WSOP). More than one thousand players should open the doors of the “Salle des étoiles” (arguably the finest poker room in the world) and do not be reluctant to pay the buy-in of € 10,600. This big crowd should generate a prize pool that is around 10 million dollars. The Day 1A has a slight drop in participation over the last European Poker Tour Monte Carlo, at the origin of this decrease, the cancellation of airlines flights because of the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjöll. The Day1 A began with a slew of players from internet qualification, but this EPT would not be an EPT without pros who are also very numerous.

In the French side, there were pros players like Michel Abecassis, Alain Roy, Antoine Saout, Guillaume Darcourt, Arnaud Mattern, Eric Haik. In the international contingent, there was Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker, Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Barry Greenstein, Phil Laak, Gavin Griffin, Kevin MacPhee, and Aaron Gustavson. At the end of Day1, it was the German Simon Münz with his stack of 175,000 chips, who temporarily holds the chip lead. The youngster ahead of the old experienced players like Chris Bjorin, Men 'The Master' Nguyen, Jeff Sarwer, Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer.
