Online gambling : The French National Assembly accept the opening

The French National Assembly, on Tuesday, passed the bill on the opening of online gambling in the country, including sports betting and online poker. The text had received the votes of 299 deputies (elected UMP and Nouveau Centre) and 223 against (elected PS and PCF). Forty members of the majority, 29 UMP and 9 NC, had done abstention. The deputies members of the Socialist Party have decided to seize the Constitutional Council. It is worth recalling that before this vote, the fact of offering online gambling and games of chance was considered as criminal in France. In the country, la Française des Jeux (FDJ), the PMU and casinos reigned as king on the sector. The French deputies vote to break the monopoly by legalizing sports betting, horse racing and online gambling like poker.

The bill opening to competition online games had already been passed by deputies and senators on first reading before returning to the National Assembly. What will happen after this adoption ? To play on sites that have a French license, everyone must identify himself in the way as what is already practiced in traditional casinos. This authentication will be followed by a tedious procedure, to verify the age of the player or if he is on the blacklist of casinos. The task to allow or block some sites will fall partly to the Regulatory Authority of Online Games (ARJEL).
