Olympic sport: Poker seeks to achieve greater recognition

According to the latest news, it seems that poker is in the process of being considered as an Olympic sport in itself. A few years ago, supporters of games of skill such as chess and the ancient game of Go have argued that these games should be associated with the Olympics. And poker is taking the same path since that the discipline had known a second renaissance. The question of what games can be included in the Olympics is determined by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the decisions that they sometimes did in the past haven't been understood by observers. For example, games that are not allowed in the Olympics include rugby, squash while rhythmic gymnastics is permitted.

Most of official lobbying came from FIDE, the World Chess Federation and WBF, the World Bridge Federation. In a period, everyone thought that they would do the battle in the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland, but they fell down. The only downside to poker is that there is no international lobbying powerful enough to defend it. The largest group the most influencing is the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) which is located in the United States acting there. Its mission is to protect the interests of poker players but now it is just concentrated on operations with U.S. law.
