Liberalization of online poker: The law does not make everyone happy

Besides being able to play with "legality", the application of the new law on the opening of the market of online gambling is not an advantage for online poker players. This law has its inconvenience for French poker player, some lovers of the sport who reside in the hexagon may see red. First inconvenience taxes. It will increase so palpable. The poker websites which have French licenses must bend to the French law. Certainly it is the operators who will pay it, but they will not wait for their turn and they will increase their price. "Today, we take 3% of the stake, capped at $3 per hand. The State tax will add a surcharge of 40%. We take responsibility on part by reducing our margins, but even so the offer will necessarily be more expensive for players", says Alexandre Dreyfus, founder and owner of a popular poker website.

Second constraint, it is on the choice. The French poker players will be forced to play on websites .fr comers and players of .com sites will not be authorized to face French players. The big gap in this new law according to Alexandre Dreyfus is that "it reduces the choice of play and the possibility of tournaments. It is the economical benefit of La Française des Jeux which was privileged at the expense of players".
