Estonia: The government is harnessed for a more accessible online poker

The Estonian State had been very quiet after decades of communist dictatorship. This small republic of the Baltic has a complicated relation with poker: on the one hand, the casinos which were established in the Estonian since the end of Communism brought back to the State considerable money which amounts reach several millions dollars each year, which is really appreciable for a country whose GDP/habitant is the 21st in the European Union. We can say that the Estonian Republic makes efforts to attract owners of casino as well as operators of poker and other online gambling investors: an attractive taxation, a friendly legal environment, cheap and qualified workers. But on another side, the emergence of small casinos everywhere made Estonia a country devastated by problems of compulsive gambling.

In this moment, this State is on the point to overtake several European countries as regards legalization of online poker. According to its government, the task to accommodate the operators of online gambling will be given to Olympic; an authority governs by the State. The goal of this initiative is to make online poker more accessible for the Baltic area, even if the main actors still awaits a true legalization for the whole poker networks. One thing is sure, obtaining licenses will be easier than in France, the Estonian State began to recognize the licenses allotted in other countries of the Union. In conclusion, this country wants straight out to liberalize its law on poker and online gambling.
