Beijing Water Cubic: Its reproduction transformed into a casino in Macao

“Larger, more beautiful”, is the slogan of new casinos of Las Vegas since 1946. On Las Vegas Boulevard, we can see the largest historic buildings of the world gathered together in one place, the pyramid of Egypt while passing by the Eiffel Tower to the Statue of Liberty. Called “The Strip”, the avenue where we can see these casinos, the Las Vegas Boulevard is perhaps the most unbelievable street in the world. The goal of this operation is to attract more players as possible in the casinos. This phenomenon of delusion of grandeur infects also the biggest rival of Las Vegas located in Asia. Macao does not count expenditure and built replica, just like in Las Vegas, to attract customers.

The last imagination of casino operators in Macao is the reproduction of a modern architectural work, which is also a speciality of Las Vegas. The copy of the Water Cube of Beijing during the 2008 Olympic Games, the Oceanus Casino, has just opened their doors today in Macao. Although the owners of the casino do not mention any architectural similarity, the resemblance is clear. Created by a casino architect of Las Vegas, Steelman Paul, the casino disposed more than 32,000 m² of space of play on 3 levels. Questioned on the work, Chris Bump, one of the fathers of the true cube explained that « the imitation is the most sincere form of flattery».
