French online game: The means of blocking of illegal sites are not finalized
A new conference was held at the Maison de la Chimie in Paris on December the 3rd, 2009. This conference had as a subject: “Online gambling: is a controlled opening of the market still possible?” Several subjects concerning online game such as casino on internet and online poker in France were tackled there, such as the blocking systems set up for online illegal casinos and the sanctions considered or the limitation of the access to the tables with the only French players. Even if the government were not talkative on the means which it will implement to block sites of online gambling which do not have the license to be able to operate in France, many persons implies that these means are not yet ready. Sebastien Proto affirms however the advance of the technical standards which will be imposed in scope statement submitted to the future operators of online gambling, of sports betting while passing by the casinos to the poker on line.
What is thus sure is that the system will aim illegal sites and not French players. The specialists have their opinions on this subject; they lean towards the system of “black list” as in Italia. But this method did not lead to conclusive results. It was very easy to circumvent the system, it was very simple for Italians to put behind a proxy based abroad to play in a transparent way on these sites. The concerned sites did not miss either imagination, the most used easy way was the frequent change of banner page.
